United Nations University - New York Office presents:

UNU Midday Forum:

Conflict and International Mediation: A Turkish Perspective

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

1:15p.m. - 2:30p.m. Eastern Standard Time (GMT -5)

As part of its Midday Forum Series the UNU will be hosting the newly appointed Turkish Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, His Excellency Mr. Ertuğrul Apakan. With internal and international conflicts still a reality Mr. Apakan will be discussing how the international community can best fulfill its role and responsibilities as a mediator in conflict situations. The session will be moderated by UNU-ONY's Director, Dr. Jean-Marc Coicaud.

With the UNU-UN Midday Forum, UNU, being a think-tank of and for the UN, aims to provide an intimate setting for the exchange of ideas and experiences, relating to topics currently researched within the UNU and the UN, thus giving academics and policy makers an opportunity to participate in the intellectual work of the organization in a constructive, informal setting. The physical setting will either be at the United Nations or, if appropriate, at academic or similar institutions in the New York area.

Date: Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Venue: UN Headquarters, New York, New York

Time: 1:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. GMT-5
